The Students Affairs Deanship is an innovation incubator that seeks to invest in AUG students, support their growth and meet their needs.

Vision

The Deanship of Students seeks to provide AUG students with enriching and fruitful on campus life experience while maintaining a balance between curricular and extracurricular activities.

Administrative Departments

Grant and Exemption Department

The Grant and Exemption Department applies special procedures to ease financial burdens that hinder students from continuing their education. These procedures are audited in accordance with the system adopted by the University Administration or the Donor and are sent to the Department of Finance.
The department performs the following procedures:

  • To prepare grant and exemption requests and distributes it to the needy students.
  • To study the submitted applications in accordance with the system of grants and exemption and the donor's criteria.
  • To receive the required documents from the students and submit it to the donor to receive financial aid.
  • To audit students names provided by institutions to the university and then return it to the concerned institutions.

Grants and Exemptions Provided by Al-Azhar University:

- Top Student Exemption Grants:

The university offers scholarships to its top students, an exemption from half of the fees paid in each semester. It is offered to all departments provided that they have received the highest cumulative average and not less than the rate of (Very Good).

Procedures of exemptions are based on the detection made by the Deanship of Registration and Admission: the Deanship of Registration and Admission makes an announcement about the top students and their cumulative grade average on a bill- board provided that they must not fall behind 12 credit hours by the end of each semester. The Deanship of Student Affairs then applies the exemptions to the top students at the Department of Finance for them to be able to register the academic semester normally.

- Martyrs Children and Wives Exemption Grant :

In recognition of the right of the martyrs and to honor their heroism, the university provides an exception from the full tuition fees in each semester for the students who are proven to be children of martyrs. The conditions that are put for the applicants:

  • The cumulative average must not be less than 65%
  • Conformation from the Ministry of Social Affairs to prove the student applying for the exemption grant is a martyr's child.

- High School Certificate from Al Azhar Secondary School Exemption Grant :

The University Administration provides a full exemption grant from the tuition fees for students who have a high school certificate from Al-Azhar Religious Institute. The students who benefit from this exemption must not gain less than a 65% cumulative average.

- Exemption Grant for Released Detainees, their Wives and Children :

The University Administration exempts students who enrolled in the Released Detainees Rehabilitation Program from half of the educational tuition fees while the Released Detainees Rehabilitation Program covers the other half of the their tuition fees. The students who benefit from this exemption grant must not get less than 65% cumulative average or else they lose half of the grant offered by the university. Moreover, the student must bring a conformation letter from the Ministry of Social Affairs to prove that the student applying for the exemption grant carries the qualified conditions.

- Exemption Grant for the Staff's Children and Wives :

The University Administration exempts students whose parents are part of AUG Staff from the educational tuition fees in every semester provided that they must not exceed the total credit hours required for graduation and must not gain a cumulative average less than 65%.

- Exemption Grant for Retired AUG Staff's Children :

The university exempts the children of retired staff from 25% of their educational tuition fees provided that they have a cumulative average of at least 65%.

- Exemption Grant for Student Athletes :

The university exempts athletes who participate in sport teams at AUG of half of the educational tuition fees provided that they have a cumulative average of at least 65%.

- Exemption Grant Siblings:

o Two Siblings:

The newly enrolled sibling at the university obtain a half grant exemption from the tuition fees in every semester in condition of receiving a cumulative average above 65% while the other sibling has to pay all of the required tuition fees.

o Three Siblings and More:

If there are more than two siblings studying at AUG, all of them get a half exemption grant from the tuition fees in condition of gaining a cumulative average above 65%. In case any of them gains a cumulative average less than a 65%, they lose the benefit of the grant exemption.

- Exemption Grants for Students of the Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Studies at the Faculty of Education :

A grant exemption is given to freshmen students who received a rate average of 80% and above in their high school study. The grant exemption continues to be valid provided that they obtain a cumulative average of 80% and above in their university study. Moreover, the student is not entitled to transfer from one faculty to another.

Freshmen students who received a rate average of 70% and less than 80% obtain a half grant exemption from their tuition fees in their first semester of their enrollment. The grant exemption continues to be valid if the student gains a cumulative average of 70% and less than 80% in their university study. If they obtain an average of 80% and above they are exempted from the whole tuition fees. Moreover, the student is not entitled to transfer from one faculty to another.

Freshmen students who received a rate average of 60% to less than 70% receive a 25% grant exemption from the tuition fees required. The tuition fees continue to be valid if the student obtains a cumulative average between 65% and 70% in their university study.

- Grant Exemption for students of Arabic Language Department at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities :

Students of Arabic Language Department at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities receive a grant exemption from the tuition fees provided that they receive a cumulative average of 80% and above.

- Grant Exemption for Students who memorize the Holy Quran by Heart :

Students who memorize the Holy Quran by heart receive a grant exemption from the full tuition fees provided that they must pass the exam held by the Islamic Studies Department and must obtain a cumulative average of 65% and above during their study.

- Grant Exemption for Students with Blood Diseases (Thalassemia) :

Students who suffer from Thalassemia obtain a full grant exemption from their tuition fees provided that they obtain a cumulative average of 65% and above.

- Grant Exemption for Physically or Visually Disabled Students:

Students who are physically or visually impaired receive a grant exemption from the tuition fees based on the percentage specified provided that they obtain a accumulative average 65% and above.

- Palestinian Ministry of Higher Education Grant :

The Palestinian Ministry of Higher Education nominates a number of high school top students every year and offers them a grant exemption from their tuition fees for every semester provided that they obtain a accumulative average of no less than 70% in their previous semester at the university.

Conditions for Obtaining Grants and Exemptions

  • The student must be registered in the university during the semester in which they applied for the grant.
  • The student must be of good behavior.
  • The Deanship of Student Affairs should be convinced with the reasons behind applying for the grant.
  • Official documents should be attached to the application.
  • The student must submit the application himself to the competent employee in the deanship department.
  • The case of the student is studied by the social worker at the deanship department.

The attached documents required are:

  • An official transcript of a accumulative average not less than 65%
  • A copy of the father's identity card explaining the number of family members.
  • A copy of the mother's identity card if the father is deceased.
  • A copy of the father's income salary if he is an employee.
  • Father's death certificate if the student's father is deceased.
  • Social Affairs certificate if the student's family is registered within families of social situations.
  • A lease of the student's family if they are lessees.
  • Any kind of documents that prove the student is in need for a grant.

University Loans Department:

The Ministry of Higher Education and a third party system collaborated to grant university loans for students of Palestinian universities. The university assigned a department to manage the lending process affiliated to the ministry. The Loans Department at the Deanship of Student Affairs helps in guiding the students to obtain a university loan.

- Conditions for obtaining a Loan:

  • The applicant for the loan must be a registered student at the university and financially in need.
  • The applicant must have successfully studied one semester at the university and earned a rate of at least 65%
  • The applicant for the loan must not be under an academic warning; an accumulative average less than 65%.
  • The applicant for the loan must not have an exemption or a full scholarship from other sources.

How to Repay the Loan:

  • After approving the loan by the Ministry's Student's Fund, the debtor student and the sponsor sign a promissory note and a loan contract at the Deanship of Student Affairs.
  • The student and the sponsor pledge to fully repay the loan after the student's graduation. If the student is unable to repay the loan, the loan is interpolated by the sponsor.

Required Documents to Obtain a Loan Application:

  • An official transcript of a cumulative average not less than 65%.
  • A copy of the father's identity card.
  • A copy of the father's income salary if he is an employee.
  • Father's death certificate if the father is deceased.
  • Social Affairs certificate if the student's family is registered within families of social situations.

Procedures for Obtaining a Loan:

  • At the beginning of each semester, the Deanship of Student Affairs announces a date to submit the loan applications for students who wish to obtain a loan.
  • The student fills out a loan application which can be accessed electronically from the exemption and loan department affiliated to the Ministry.
  • The Deanship of Student Affairs checks all the required documents and makes sure all loan conditions are fulfilled.
  • Loan applications are collected and entered to the computer according to a program designed specially to identify eligible students by the applicable system.
  • The second day after the delivery of the loan application, the student receives a conformation of the amount of money from the Student Affairs Department after signing a loan contract.
  • The student heads to the Department of Finance to pay the remains of his fees and complete the registration procedures.

The Department of Extracurricular Activities

The Department of Extracurricular Activities provides its students with health, psychological and social services. Moreover, it considers students problems and helps them:

  • To follow up the terms of hygiene and health in the university canteens.
  • To oversee the establishment of national exhibitions and art festivals.
  • To supervise of student council activities.
  • To participate in the supervisory committee of the student council's elections.
  • To organize extracurricular programs for lecturers and seminars.
  • To organize trips and volunteer work camps.
  • To issue press release related to students interests and activities.
  • To strengthen relations between the university and its graduates.
  • To strengthen relations between the university graduates from different departments and disciplines.
  • To contribute in organizing programs and rehabilitation sessions to raise the efficiency and performance of university graduates.
  • To prepare annual graduation ceremonies.
  • To provide individual and group counseling for university students and follow up problems that face students in the university.
  • To sign clearance for the student of the department of physical activity, the department of grants and loans and the director of student affairs.

The Department of Sport Activities

Since the establishment of the university, sport activates has been given special attention. Therefore, Sport Activities Department was established in Al-Katiba (the Literary Faculties) Building in order to provide the university students and staff with the opportunity to practice various sport activities. The department is considered the first in the Palestinian universities equipped with advanced and modern equipment. Its space is around 250 square meters, containing 30 fitness sport devices, body building and weightlifting, Kung Fu, Karate and Taekwondo, boxing, tennis court and other various sport activities. Moreover, the department hires professional trainers to train and prepare university teams of different sports to participate in local and international championships. The department seeks to achieve the following goals:

  • To enhance the concept of collective activity.
  • To develop sportsmanship between students.
  • To entertain students by cheering for their favorite team.
  • To develop student's sport skills.
  • To activate sport programs and activate students in sport activities through:
  • Developing ongoing training programs during the academic year.
  • Establishing sport events and meeting with other university teams.
  • Preparing various sport championships for students and academic staff members.
  • Encouraging students and university staff to exercise and practice various sport activities according to a special program assigned by a specialist in developing sport activities.
