Inauguration of IWE Celebrated




Sep 27, 2016- AUG held an inauguration ceremony to officially celebrate the completion of Institute of Water and Environment (IWE) building, funded by the German Development Bank, Entwicklungsbank (KfW), and executed by UNDP/PAPP. The two-story new building has three labs for microbiological tests, water and waste water analysis, and for soil texture and heavy element analysis. Moreover, the institute is equipped with high-quality instruments for analysis ICP.

The ceremony was held at the IWE building, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Sami Muslih, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Marwan Al Agha, Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Dr. Amin Hamad, Dean of postgraduate studies,  UNDP Special Representative Mr. Roberto Valent, accompanied by Eng. Hekmat El Khairy and Eng. Eman El Hosseny, Mr.Jonas Blume, Director KfW Office in Palestine and his deputy Ms. Rachel Foltz, Eng. Rebhi El Sheikh, Deputy Chairman of the Palestinian water Authority, and Eng. Monther Shublaq, Director –General of Gaza’s Coastal Municipalities Water Utility (CMWU) and his deputy Eng. Maher Al-Najjar, in addition Dr. Mazen Hamada, President of the Board- AUG Presidency, Eng. Mohamed Al Wazir, Director of Projects Unit, Eng. Abdunnasir Abu Assi, Director of Engineering Office and a group of specialists , workers in the water and Environment sector ,and foreign institutions representatives .

Before cutting the ribbon and unveiling a plaque that marked the inauguration of IWE new building, Dr. Khaldoun Abu Alhin, Director of IWE accompanied the delegates in a tour to introduce the most important sections of the institute, its laboratories and activities in the areas of water and environmental analysis.

As the sole academic facility to serve water and environmental aspects, IWE is expected to be a place of education, training, consultancy services, and applied research for Palestinian water and environment sectors.
