AUG Hosted Delegation from the Ministry of Education & Higher Education

May 31, 2016 – A high level delegation from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, headed by Deputy Minister Dr. Basri Saleh and Assistant Undersecretary Dr. Anwar Zakaria, visited Al Azhar University- Gaza (AUG). The delegation was hosted by Prof. Dr. Sami Muslih, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Prof. Dr. Ali An Najar, Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs in addition to the Faculty of Education's Dean and staff members and the Deans of the faculties of education in the Gazan universities.

The visit included intensive workshop with specialists in education to discuss the reformulation of the educational concept in Palestine. They discussed a spectrum of ideas: renewing the Palestinian curriculum towards a new, lighter, and deeper curriculum based on enhancing the critical thinking, increasing the flexibility of the General Secondary Examination, adding Entrepreneurship & Business branch to the general secondary branches, enhancing the vocational orientations and merging it in the academic sphere for students in class 7,8, and 9, adopting technology in education through the digitization project, and the renovation of school infrastructure.

Furthermore, the attendants discussed the obstacles faced the higher education institutions in Gaza, especially the financial crisis and its repercussions. 

The visit was concluded with open discussion among the attendants who presented their observations and recommendations to develop the education in Palestine.
