May 3, 2017 – The MA students of the Economics Program at Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences held a workshop entitled" Consumer Protection and the Role of National Product: Food Industries, Energy Alternatives" under the supervision of Dr. Mahmoud Sabra, Head of Economics Dept.
Dr. Marwan Al Agha, Vice President for Administrative and Financial Affairs; Dr. Mohammed Fares, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences; and a number of AUG Council members , academics, economists, experts , and representatives of the private sectors, and the faculty students attended the worksop.
Dr. Fares commenced the workshop by confirming the importance of consumer protection, appreciating the efforts of the Economics Dept. in organizing such event that targeted the largest group in the community.
For his part, Dr. Sabra pointed out the significance of such event in developing a strategic framework for consumer protection, calling the attendees to participate and discuss to achieve the workshop's objective.
During the workshop, the MA students presented their questions in terms of food industries and energy alternatives. Eng. Fathi al-Sheikh Khalil, Energy Authority deputy chairman; Eng. Raji Musalam, Director of Palestine standards institution; Mr. Tayseer Al Safadi, deputy chairman of Palestinian Food Industries Union; Dr. Ramadan Musalm, Director of Palestinian Society for Consumer Protection; and Dr. Ahmed Abu Shaban, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment.
The workshop included an experiment to test a range of local and imported products without informing the participants of the product's type in order to determine the competitive quality of the local product compared to the imported one in isolation of any packaging, trademarks and advertising factors.
