May 23, 2017 – AUG and UCAS launched the activities of "Practical Solutions for Substantiality Conference, in cooperation with Agricultural Development Association (PARC) and Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC).
The conference, funded by World Bank through Quality Improvement Fund (QIF) - Ministry of Education and Higher Education, aimed to (i) exchange academic and practical experiences, (ii) improve the agricultural education strategies in the Gaza Strip, (iii) learn about successful local and international experiments in Agriculture, (iv) raise awareness about modern agriculture practices, (v) promote the concept of sustainable development in the field of Agriculture and Environment, (vi)develop the scientific research in light of the local and international needs, and (vii) enhance the cooperation between higher education institutions and the private sector.
The inaugural meeting commenced in the presence of Dr. Abdurrahman Hamad, Chairman of the Board of Trustees; Prof. Dr. Hani Nijm, Chairman of the Conference; Prof. Dr. Rifat Rustom, UCAS Rector; Dr. Ahmed Abu Shaban, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment; Eng. Mohammed Al Bakri, UAWC Director General; Eng. Afaf Abu Ghali, Chargé d'affaires of PARC in Gaza; and a number of universities presidents, academics, and representatives of agricultural sector.
The Conference in its first day included three scientific sessions that discussed contemporary topics in Agriculture and Environment, while the second day included field visits to agricultural facilities in AUG, UCAS, PARC, and UAWC.
