Mar 5, 2017 – The Faculty of Agriculture and Environment held a workshop, entitled "Foot and Mouth Disease: Risk and Intervention Priorities", in cooperation with Union of Agricultural Work Committees (UAWC) and Value Chain Forum for Dairy Sector.
The workshop was attended by Prof. Dr. Usama Zaineldeen, Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Ahmed Abu Shaban, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Environment; Prof. Dr. Hatem Al-Shanti, Head of Animal production Dept.; Dr. Mohamed El Hindi, Director of Food Analysis Center; and Dr. Hassan Azzam, Director of Veterinary Services at the Ministry of Agriculture in addition to specialists, representatives of civil society institutions and a number of cattle breeders and farmers.
The workshop aimed to highlight the causes of foot -and -mouth disease, its symptoms, and treatment. During the workshop, the attendees discussed intervention methods and the ministry's efforts to control the disease and provide immunizations to uninfected farms.
Statics of infected farms and the extent of their economic loss were discussed in the workshop.
