Child Rights between Legislative Duplication and International Legitimacy of Human Rights

Mar 26, 2017 – The Faculty of Law and the Legal Clinic organized a study day under the title
 "Child Rights between Legislative Duplication and International Legitimacy of Human Rights."

Dr. Saher Al Walid, Dean of the Faculty, highlighted the significant role in dealing with child rights. He stated that through the Legal Clinic, the Faculty discussed child labor phenomenon in cooperation with the legal clinics at the Islamic University and the University of Applied Medical Sciences.  Dr. Al Walid also explained the legislative duplication and its impact on children rights from a criminal perspective, pointing out the applicable law in the Gaza Strip and West Bank to protect children rights.

In his turn, Dr.  Mohammed Abu Matar, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law, discussed the most important international conventions that laid down the rules of children human rights. Dr. Rami Wishah, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Law, explained the legislative duplication and its impact on children rights from a civil perspective.

For his part, Dr. Ala'a Abu Taha talked about the legislative relevance of national laws with children rights in international charters and conventions.

At the end of the event, Dr. Abu Matar announced a set of recommendations: (i) the importance of applying law of children rights to ensure full protection of children and their rights, and (ii) the need to end the political division to unify the Palestinian legislation.
