The Faculty of Science hosted a lecture delivered by Dr. Suleiman Baraka, UNESCO chairholder and lecturer at Al Aqsa University. The lecture, which was held in Hany Ashwa Hall, discussed three themes of the solar Physics.
In the first theme, Dr. Baraka discussed in details the phenomenon of Corona around the sun and the physical description of the sun and its emission. The second theme was about the ESA–NASA Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, SOHO. This the longest-lived Sun-watching satellite to date enjoys an uninterrupted view of our star from some 1.5 million kilometers beyond Earth in the direction of the Sun to monitor the effect of space weather on our planet, and it plays a vital role in forecasting potentially dangerous solar storms.
Space weather and the effects of the solar wind on the high-pressure electricity lines, communications networks, and on the satellites were discussed in the third theme.
The lecture also included long-winded discussions about the nature of black holes and the sun and its emissions.
